The ideals of Neyer Holdings Corporation trace back to 1894, when the great grandfather of Tom Neyer, Jr., Joseph Neyer, was growing a carpentry construction business in Cincinnati, Ohio. Joseph’s company took the name of his son, Al Neyer, and continued its growth and evolution after World War II, when Al assumed leadership of the firm. Al and later his three sons (Ray, Don, and Tom Neyer, Sr.) combined entrepreneurial vision, aggressiveness, adaptability, and skills to grow their family business into one of the preeminent industrial and office contractors and land developers in the Greater Cincinnati region.
Yet another generation began to enter into the business in the late 1970s and 80s, including Tom Neyer, Jr. who began in the office in 1987. Tom held various roles in the firm, with an emphasis on strategy, real estate, and business development, serving as Chairman of the Board for his final 5 years with the firm. After 16 years with Al Neyer Inc., Tom decided to launch his own entrepreneurial extension of the family vision and pursue dual business passions that he had developed: investing in growth companies and real estate.
In 2003, Neyer Holdings Corporation was created to “Combine the Finest People, Places and Ideas” by building businesses in two distinct but very complementary areas: corporate capital and commercial real estate. The company and its affiliates have grown to develop and manage over $250 million in investments and have operated in over 100 markets throughout the United States.
Located in Downtown Cincinnati, our dynamic team of professionals has a breadth of experience in both the public and private sectors. We offer unique strategic, operational, financial, and market solutions to our partners and clients, in service of the following Vision:
We are globally engaged advisors, investors, and developers of opportunities and ideas in growth companies, real estate, and public policy.
We are a carefully honed group of authentic, diverse, and meaningful individuals, who collaborate with each other and the highest quality partners in an ethically and commercially sound manner.
We create and advance economically and socially constructive realities to improve the world and its people.
Our associates, partners, and clients elect to work with Neyer Holdings confident that we follow through and deliver on our word. We approach each opportunity with the highest degree of integrity and diligence, inspiring dreams and plans that are bold and realistic. With that core framework, we work to consistently exceed the expectations of our many stakeholders.
These shared values are the driving force behind each associate’s decision to become a part of the Neyer Holdings team — and are the very foundation of Neyer Holdings Corporation itself. We are purposeful and reflective in our aspirations and instruct our professional and personal actions by the following values:
We strive to proactively examine the dreams, plans, and expectations of those with whom we work, and understand if they match our ability to achieve those ends. We maintain our principles, are honest with our partners, clients, ourselves and each other, and apply or convey that honesty in ways that create growth, goodwill, and capacity.
“Work hard, play hard” is directionally correct, but too narrow, almost crassly so. This life is not a dress rehearsal, and so we are present to this moment and drawn to live it richly. This applies to our work, our interest in the world, and our aspiration as a group of friends and of family companies.
While we are intense, this does not mean being unhealthy or obsessive. We have families, friends, organizations, hobbies, and curiosities that keep us attuned and grounded even as we seek to soar. As it happens, this balance makes us even better at the office. We owe it to our colleagues and ourselves to be complete – professionally and personally.
Everyone at Neyer Holdings Corporation has a conviction that we can do something meaningful here. Our desire to be a part of it has led us to take some sort of personal risk to do so. For different people and in different ways there is a financial component to that risk, but the greater force of that risk is the opportunity cost to be here. We have a finite amount of time, and we are choosing to spend ours here because we want to do great things, have great fun, and enjoy the realities we make of dreams. This is a place where people seeking to do regular things may find a curious fascination, but neither a place nor a business formula that works for them.
Most of our clients and partners sense that they will “fit” with us. That means (importantly) that they are inclined to like us, but more significantly they feel that they can get more from – and more for – themselves as a result of their affiliation. This suggests that our ideal client or partner has a certain self-awareness, and measures profit not merely in terms of immediate cash. By the way, the people we work with think it’s a whole lot more fun to live this way too…
We each have unique and relevant strengths. To the extent that we help each other understand those qualities and align ourselves to optimize them, we offer a unique opportunity for our partners and clients to thrive. Collectively, we provide the necessary diversity of thought, style, and background to build each other, and our partners, into a group of uniquely capable and valuable enterprises.
“There are no problems, only opportunities.” We think this new-age saw is rubbish and failure to recognize it as folly will lead to disaster, quickly. The willingness to see, address, and get beyond vulnerabilities, and the dangers they impart, will end up saving more time and work than it consumes. We are creative in dealing with them and do so candidly and definitively so we can get back to giving energy to the more important and gratifying task of creating opportunity
While happiness is certainly a fine state, “joyful” is an active presence and view of the world that affects everything we do. This has a particularly spiritual component to some, but it has a very practical dimension as well. In every day, and in most every circumstance, there could be some source of discontent. We make a choice to not look for that discontent, and if it happens to show itself, to not give it our power. We realize how fortunate we truly are and are grateful for and derive energy from the opportunity to do great things for our partners and clients.
We invest in our communities just as we invest in our businesses – in ways that are consistent with our vision and aligned with our strengths. The funds that we donate are targeted largely at organizations and initiatives that create capacity in individuals and communities. We also give generously of our time and seek and support durable, thoughtful strategies in our giving.
What we choose to do, the people with whom we choose to do it, and ultimately the positive difference resulting from those choices is a big part of our enduring contribution to posterity. Every day, and particularly at the conclusion of those days, we want to say not merely that the world is no worse for our being here; it is indeed better – because we cared to make it so.
